An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale rocked Vanuatu, an island nation in the Pacific. This earthquake occurred on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 23:55 Western Indonesia Time.
According to the USGS, the earthquake is located at 18.2 south latitude and 168 east longitude at a depth of 40.6 kilometers below sea level.
Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported the quake didn't cause a tsunami although it is strong enough to generate local tsunamis. "Based on all available data, a large tsunami in the Pacific did not happen and there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii."
